Vastu Shastra for academic progress

Parents are constantly concerned about the academic progress of their child. The progress of a child in his career is found to be far from satisfactory, in spite of putting in hours of work. Sometimes due to continuous failure, the child loses interest in his studies. What should be done, if a child does not get good marks or fails in school or college.

According to Vastu Shastra, North, North - East and East are the directions symbolic of deep knowledge and brilliance. It is in the interest of the student, that he gets the benefits of the characteristics of these directions. It has been realised and actually experienced that if a student faces North, North - East or East while studying, He is bound to succeed in his academics. He will excel beyond his belief and will shine in his field. If a separate room is to be made available for studies, then such a room should be in the South - West part of the flat, towards the Western side. In such a room, if the student sits facing the North, North - East or East directions in erect position, excellence and success will be his landmarks.

Indra controls East, Kuber is the Lord of North and Shri Bhagwan Shankara is the lord of North - East. One must pray Kuber to become rich, and always be humble to worship Shri Bhagwan Shankara so that he can bestow upon you everything you desire. At the same time to become powerful one must always look towards Indra. And that is why, one should always seek favours from all these three Deities. Therefore, if once a student is imbibed with this idea, and if he sits upright facing any of these directions, he must succeed. But, the student, whether he sits in a chair or not, must always sit in absolutely in upright position, while studying.

If a student sits for studies facing any other directions, he will no able to get more marks or even he may not be able to concentrate on his study. The vibrations received from North, East or North - East directions are very powerful, while vibrations received from other directions are not so. Rather they will make adverse effects.

The Imperial, Mumbai

Mumbai's first major skyscraper project, and really, the project that can be heralded to have cemented the way for the boom, Shapoorji Pallonji & Co Ltd. / SD Corporation's twin Imperial Towers, designed by Mumbai architect Hafeez Contractor as his most recognizable project, was designed as Mumbai's tallest towers.

Then called "SD Towers" or "Tardeo Twin Towers", the years long litigation and hard-won battle for construction rights was the change that heralded the 'new India' economic boom model of urban redevelopment over the paralyzing nexus of 'old India' socialists and special-interest groups that for years had kept Mumbai underdeveloped.

The towers are built on former slum land where the current re-development model of builders providing free land and rehabilitation to slum dwellers in exchange for rights for property development, was first put into practice on a big scale. This model became the standard for slum redevelopment across the city, and across India as a whole.

The towers are ultra-high end residential towers that sold out even before the first brick was laid. The Imperial offers sea-views by virtue of its height, and a resort-like gardens and fountains on top of the parking-structure podium, with hanging gardens that mask the structure itself.

While construction hasn't yet progressed so it is noticeable, it is surrounded by several 45-55 storey residential towers, creating Mumbai's first skyscraper cluster. Though a temporary stay has been put on construction owing to some legal matters, it is expected to be finished by 2009.

Vastu Shastra for Internal Arrangements

Note : Directions must be determined by using magnetic compass only and 15 % variation is allowed.

North - East :

This direction is considered very sacred in Vastu Shastra. This direction gains importance as it is defined as the adobe of the Lord almighty. This is the only suitable place for worship. The room in the North - East direction of the house should be reserved for worship. The purity of this room should be properly maintained. If it is not possible to have a separate room for worship, then at least place the idol in the direction. Perform Pooja or prayers or perform rituals to reap the maximum benefits. Do not place any other articles in this direction or keep it vacant. Only water can be placed in this direction. While placing the pictures or idols of different deities, see that they are not facing each other, else the household will experience some sort of discomfort.

East :

Bathroom and ablution room must be located in the east, but not towards North - East.

South - East :

The Kitchen platform or cooking area should be towards South - East area. The cooked food can be placed elsewhere. While cooking, face must be towards East, otherwise occupants will suffer medical problems. Well or bore well in this direction gives ill effects. Between East and South - East, one can have a small store room.

South :

Bed room should be towards South. The area between South and South - West is suitable for locating toilets. Sitting position in the toilet should be facing North. In any case one should not face East or West. Area between South - West and West should be utilised for study room.

West :

Dining room should be placed towards West.

North - West :

All storage provisions, eatables etc. can be kept towards North - West.

North :

This direction represents Kubera, the treasurer of God. All the cupboards containing cash, ornaments, jewelery including important documents can be placed in this direction.

Few other tips :

  • As far as possible, bedroom should have a slope towards East as it generates wealth and motivates the occupants to perform auspicious deeds.
  • If the kitchen is sited to the North of the bedroom, then the kitchen will always be full of delicious and healthy food.
  • The living room should be sited in the center of the house. If the living room is located towards the North, then the occupants develop quarreling tendencies, become cheats or have a short span of life. However, if the living room is located in the South, then the house will never see the presence of gamblers or idlers, or gossipers.
Cupboards and wardrobes :

Vastu Shastra has identified certain days and time for installation of cupboards and wardrobes. The days on which the installation will prove auspicious are Wednesday and Friday. Also the first, second, third, fifth, seventh, tenth, eleventh, thirteenth and full moon day of that particular fortnight, and the existence of specific constellations in the sky, viz. Swati, Punarvasu, Shravan, Dhanishtha, Shatataraka, Rohini and all the three Ultaras will always prove auspicious.

A few aspects to be considered before purchasing or designing the cupboard or wardrobe are mentioned below :

  • If the fitment is too thin or over sized, the household will always face scarcity of food.
  • If the fitment is out of proportion or truncated or slanting position, a total destruction of the household is inevitable.
  • A supplement to the original fitment, is bound to create misery for the owner.
  • If the fitment leans externally then the owner of the house is likely to be residing far away from the home town.
  • The fitment to be placed adjacent to the door, must be placed only during Tiryankmkh constellation.
Medicines :

It is learnt that medicines kept in the North - East direction always prove beneficial to a greater extent. Patient's ailment will get cared earlier. The sun rays thrown from the said direction have a totally different vitality and that is why this good effect. The patient should face North - East while taking the medicines.

Pune, upcoming metro city

Recently metropolitan city in India are Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Recent Assocham Eco pulse (AEP) study suggests that Pune may be the added to the list.

The rising appeal of Pune is evident from its highest real estate prices and maximum population among the other upcoming cities. Pune is the best city offering optimistic business environment. The AEP analysed four tier II cities Ahmedabad, Pune, Lucknow and Chandigarh. The parameters necessary for a metro city are social infrastructure, infrastructure availability, real estate cost and availability, transportation facility, presence of quality educational institutes, employment opportunity, facility of financial services and business environment. Pune occupied the first position though it needs to improve on social infrastructure, transportation and financial services.

Pune with 26 malls and 25 category star hotels (both maximum among the four cities under survey) ranked it first in employment opportunity and business environment, infrastructure availability and real estate cost and availability and educational institutes. But it stood 3rd as far as social infrastructure, financial services and transportation were concerned.

In real estate prices and availability, Pune stood first, Chandigarh being the second, Ahmedabad third and Lucknow the last one. It is learnt that process for acquiring land in Lucknow is the most time consuming.

Pune lost out to Lucknow and Ahmedabad on account of transportation facility and connectivity.

Pune carved the maximum share of 32.74 per cent in the total jobs tracked by Assocham Placement Parameter for the period January-June 2008. The prominent sectors attracting large number of aspirants include IT, manufacturing, engineering and academics among others.

“There is a grave need for a seventh metro city in our country as most of the present six metro cities in India are facing pressure of rising migrant population, crumbling infrastructure facility and manpower crunch, along with exhausting office and residential space and rising rental cost” said the Assocham spokesperson.
