2012 End Of the World

With 2012, as you probably could have guessed from the poster art of tidal waves crashing over the Himalayas, Emmerich is letting go of whatever restraint he might have had before. Clocking in at nearly three hours, boasting about a dozen major characters and at least half a dozen emotional death scenes, 2012 operates on the assumption that, if we liked seeing New York destroyed in The Day After Tomorrow and Washington D.C. zapped in Independence Day, we'll really love witnessing the wholesale destruction of the globe.

I hate to say it, but Emmerich is pretty much right. Far from conveying the horrors that might befall us should anything remotely so destructive happen, 2012 feels more like a soothing bath of Hollywood tropes and cliches, allowing us to witness Los Angeles slide into the ocean like Atlantis, but then warming us with a Woody Harrelson wisecrack and a rousing speech from Chiwetel Ejiofor. It's numbing, sure, especially when the first half is nothing but CGI explosion after another, but on some level it's exactly what we expect out of Hollywood-- shallow spectacle and a crowd of stars, an adventure and a few moral lessons, a giant budget spent guaranteeing we won't feel a bit different than we did when walking into the theater.

Billions of people die in the ensuing melee, but there are only a few we're instructed to care about. Chief among them is Cusack and his family, who start driving out of Los Angeles seconds before the destruction begins thanks to a tip from Woody Harrelson, who plays a Yellowstone-residing conspiracy theorist who saw the whole thing coming and made a YouTube video about it (Emmerich's nods toward modern concerns, like casting Danny Glover as the President and having characters constantly complain about cell service, head toward parody when Harrelson demands that Cusack "download my blog.") Plot mechanics too silly to describe require Cusack, his ex-wife (Amanda Peet), her new boyfriend (Tom McCarthy) and their cutesy kids (Liam James and Morgan Lily) to fly a series of planes on their way to China, where they intend to save their own skins in a manner that's best left revealed in the theater.

Somewhere along the way George Segal perishes on a cruise ship, Danny Glover does the heroic Presidential thing, a Russian oligarch and his bratty kids team up with Cusack and company, and the main players in Washington-- plus the President's comely daughter (Thandie Newton)-- all make their way to a souped-up description of Dick Cheney's undisclosed location. The final section of the film, while utterly avoidable to the tragedy elements, is also the best section, finally abandoning generic and plasticine CGI for situations that feel real and dangerous. There's no villain here, unless you count the merely loathsome Platt character, so it takes a lot of effort to keep putting the characters in danger, and by the end of the
movie, Emmerich has most surely run out ideas. But there's something about the scale of it all, or maybe the way seemingly random characters tie into the main plot, that keeps the train chugging along. When Ejiofor gets to make his hero speech, and certain bad characters make good at the eleventh hour, it's not quite a "This is our Independence Day!" moment, but it does come closer than any of Emmerich's films since then. Somehow he's got a real heart beating inside his movie, and no amount of groaner one-liners or thunderous explosions can take that away.

WHAT CAUSES OUR DREAMS?

Let us begin by saying what does not cause our dreams. Our drems do not come form "another world. "They are not messages form some out side source. They are not a look into the future, nor do they prophesy anything.

All our dreams have somthing to do with our emotion, fears, longings, wishes, needs, memories. But something on the "outside" may influence what we dream. If a person is hungry, or tired, or cold, his dreams may include this feeling. If the covers have slipped off your bed, you may dream you are on an iceberg. The material for the dream you have tonight is likely to come form the experiences you will have today.

So the "content" of your dream comes form something that affects you while you are sleeping (you are cold, a noise, a discomfort, ect.) and it may also use your past experiences and the urges and interests you have now. This is why very young children are likely to dream of wizards and fairies, older children of school exams, hungry people of food, homesick soldiers of their families, and prisoners of freedom.

To show you how what is happening while you are asleep and your wishes or needs can all be combined in a dream, here is the story of an experiment. A man was asleep and the back of his hand was rubbed with a piece of absorbent cotton. He dreamed that he was in a hospital and his sweetheart was visiting him, sitting on bed and stroking his hand!

There are people called psychoanalysts who have made a special study of why we dream what we dream and what those dreams mean. Their interetation of dreams is not accepted by everyone, but it offers an interesting approach to the problem. They believe that dreams are expressions of wishes that didn't come true, of frustrated yearnings. In other words, a dream is a way of having your wish fulfilled.

During sleep, according to this theory, our inhibitions are also asleep. We can express or feel what we really want to. So we do this in a dream and thus provide an outlet for our wishes, and they may be wishes we didn't even know we had!

Gems

Gems have always had a special fascination for mankind. Forthousands of years, gems were worn as charms, or amulets, to protect people form demons and diseases. Some gems were believed to have the power of enabling their owners to foretell the future. Other gems were supposed to be able to tell whether a person was guilty or innocent of a crime.

In ancient times, gems were distinguished only by their colors. The name "ruby" was given to all precious stone of a red hue. All green stones were called "emeralds." And all those of blue were called "sapphires."
Later on it was discovered that some gems were harder than others and endured longer. So it came about that the value of a gem depended not only on its color, brilliancy, and rarity, but also on its hardness. Diamonds for instance, are today considered the most precious of gems because, besides their beauty, they are the hardest of all stones.

All the gems are called "precious stones." But strictly speaking, the word "precious" is used only for the four most valuable stones, the diamond, the ruby, the emerald and the sapphire. The other valuable stones are "semi-precious,"and these include opals, amethysts and topazes. Many of the precious and semi-precious stones are close relations.

The diamond, the most precious gem, is also the simplest. It is composed of one element, pure carbon. Rubies and sapphires are varieties of a substance called "corundum". Rubies have their carmine color because of small quantities of iron in the corundum. And the presence of various oxides make sapphires bright blue or velvet blue.

A great many of the most beautiful gems are made of combinations of a substance called "silicate." Topaz and tourmaline are members of the silicate group. Garnets and jade are also silicates. Some of the less costly gems belong to the quartz group, which is pure silica. A methyst is one of these. The opal is silica containing five to ten per cent of water. The opal, by the way, is one of the few precious stones which are supposed to bring evil to those who possess it. Even today, many people will not wear opals because of this ancient superstition.
Science today is beginning to learn how to manufacture precious stones artificially. This includes diamonds, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires. These are not imitations; they are actually the same as the natural stone, only they are being produced in laboratories!

WIndow 7

With the release of Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows 7, there is a wave of excitement through the IT industry and the end users.

It is a seamless upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows Vista, however, migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 is a more challenging task. The migration from Windows XP—close to 70% desktops run on it—to Windows 7 requires a clean install of the new operating system, and customers will need to re-install their applications and migrate their settings, configuration, playlists, bookmarks etc.

Our prediction is that 40% of those who are migrating to Windows 7 will require additional assistance of some kind. To eliminate the wastage of money and frustration that go with such migration, several Websites have come out with ready-reference and step-by-step guide to application migration.

If you are ready for an upgrade on your existing PC, first, take the Windows 7 Readiness test to check for the compatibility of your system configuration, like hardware compatibility, software compatibility and disk space requirements for the operating system. Second, audit the applications that are used by you and build a checklist with your settings and configuration that you would like to migrate.

If you are ready for a change, look beyond the headlines about interface tweaks and you'll find Windows 7 is crammed with lesser known, but still important, new and enhanced features, which, taken together, deliver improved performance and productivity, better troubleshooting, stronger security and a whole lot more. Our research cites that the current Windows Vista users (35%) were more excited about the Windows launch than the Windows XP users (29%). Although XP remains more capable for devices with limited memory and outdated graphics, Windows 7 performs better than Windows Vista. As PC becomes more central to our lives, how we use it at home, work and play has evolved dramatically after the launch of Windows XP. It's time for a change.

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan This actor had the privilege of being born in a noted film family. But we have seen that being born with a silver spoon in mouth is not enough to guarantee success in life.
There are many actors who had silver spoons at their disposal all through their lives. Bobby Deol, Kumar Gaurav, Mohnish Bahl, and Abhishekh Bachchan in recent times, had opportunities laid out in platters for them, yet the going never really was strong for these star-sons.
Aamir too did not have to strive for an opportunity to be a hero in films, at the same time he was humble enough to boost his prospects with talent and a lot of hard work. He started his career in films with a runaway success called Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, a film directed by his cousin, Mansoor Khan.
Aamir has come a long way since QSQT. Even after spending nearly 15 years in the film industry the desi version of Tom Hanks manages to retain freshness in his performances.
There were hits like Dil, Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahin, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander, Rangeela, Raja Hindustaani, Ghulam, Sarfarosh and there were the offbeat, critically acclaimed ones like Raakh, Earth-1947.
A seasoned artiste now, Aamir is slowly turning to production. His first film as a producer is a period film titled Lagaan. The film was done at a huge level and Aamir is said to have spent quite a handful in making the film.

But it is learnt that Kalki Koechlin, Indian born French Actress, has replaced Shruti Hassan.
============================

Sources insist that Rani and Aditya Chopra tied the knot a very long time ago and that has been kept under wraps because they don’t want it to affect her career which she is so desperately trying to revive. Insiders swear that she is called ‘maalkin’ at her favourite production house.

Hallmark

Hallmark has been acting as a safeguard to purchasers of gold and gold articles for centuries in various countries. In simple terms, Hallmark is a purity certification of gold articles in accordance with Indian Standard specifications.
Gold articles are evaluated and tested at an official Assaying and Hallmarking Centre and then certified that the metal used conforms to the national and international standard of fineness and purity.

The Bureau of Indian Standards, the country's apex standards body, is involved in the development of technical standards (popularly known as Indian Standards), product quality and management system certifications and consumer affairs in all matters concerning standardisation, certification and quality.
The BIS hallmarking scheme has been aligned with international criteria on hallmarking. As per this scheme, license is granted to the jewellers by BIS under Product Certification Scheme. The BIS certified jewellers can get their jewellery hallmarked from any of the BIS recognized Assaying and Hallmarking Centre.
Hallmark consists of five components i.e. BIS Mark, the fineness number (corresponding to given caratage), Assaying and Hallmarking Centre's mark, jeweller's mark and year of marking denoted by a code letter and decided by BIS (e.g. code letter 'A' was approved by BIS for year 2000, 'B' being used for the year 2001 and 'C' for 2002). The marking is done either using punches or laser marking machine.
The BIS hallmark, a mark of conformity widely accepted by the consumer, bestows the additional confidence to the consumer on the purity of gold jewellery.
As per this scheme the jewellery retailer / manufacturer desirous of obtaining a license apply to BIS for use of Standard Mark (hallmark) on their jewellery. After registration, BIS officials conduct a preliminary inspection for verification of premises retailing / manufacturing, testing facilities and competence of testing personnel. A sample is drawn from the jewellers retail / manufacturing premises for independent testing. Based on the satisfactory preliminary inspection report and test report of the sample drawn during inspection, Licenses granted to the jeweller.
After getting the license, the jeweller (retailer / manufacturer) has to follow a BIS approved scheme of testing and inspection on a continuing basis to have confidence in the homogeneity and purity of the gold jewellery offered for hallmarking.

A BIS certified jewellers (retailer / manufacturers) has right to register himself with any of the BIS recognized Assaying and Hallmarking Centers to get his jewellery hallmarked. BIS maintains surveillance on the certified jewellers, at a defined periodicity. Market surveillance involves collection of hallmarked gold jewellery from licensee's retail outlet/manufacturing premises and having it tested for conformity in BIS recognized Hallmarking Centre.
Deviations in degree of purity of fine metal and observance of operations not in conformance to the system may result in cancellation of BIS licence, and invoke legal proceedings for penalties under the BIS Act, Rules and Regulations.
The principal objective of assaying and hallmarking is to protect a consumer against victimization of irregular gold quality. Besides consumer satisfaction, hallmarking helps to create an export competitiveness of gold jewellery industry thus provide strong impetus for gold jewellery exports.
In addition, it develops gold based financial products that will help in mopping up the vast dormant gold resources lying with the household sector. It also helps develop India as a leading gold market centre in the world commensurate with its status as the topmost consumer.
The jewelers with BIS license of Hallmark Gold Jewellery provide clear indication of their capabilities, strong evidence of their commitment to quality, assurance of consistence in purity and quality of gold jewellery.
It provides opportunity is to describe the way they maintain their standards for quality control and later demonstrate that they consistently do what they claim. It provides international competitiveness and enhanced customer satisfaction. It also provides third-party assurance and satisfaction that they have got the right purity of gold for the given price and protection against victimization of irregular gold quality / purity.

Since they were facing a financial crisis then, her parents put her in films.

She was three when she got her first break in Nazrana. She played the little Shyama, sitting on the moon and singing a song. She hasn't taken any formal training in dance. She learned dance from the well-known dance master B Sohanlal. He taught her the basics of Kathak, Kathakali, Manipuri, Bharata Natyam etc. She was only 13, a schoolgirl, when she got married to master Sohanlal. He was 43 then. Amrita Rao

Amrita Rao was born in Mumbai, to a well-to-do Saraswat Brahmin family, on June 7th 1981. In Sanskrit "Amrita" is a drink which gives you immortality. This model-turned-actress has got the talent and beauty to be immortal in viewers mind.

Amrita never really dreamed to be an actress because she thought that with no contacts in the film industry, it would be a tough battle to establish her there. But she made it to Bollywood. Even though she has just acted in ten films so far, one of them is from Sooraj Barjatya. Her beauty bowled over acclaimed international painter M.F Husain and inspired him to make a series of paintings depicting her and her film "Vivah".

It all started when, while studying psychology at the Sophia College in Mumbai, she auditioned for "Fairever Cream" and to her surprise, got selected from among 60 other contestants. The close-up Ad campaign followed and it became a big success, granting her loads of offers. Within a year, she became one of the most sought-after models in India.

Her Cadbury's Perk and Nestle Bru Coffee advertisements fetched her offers from top directors, but she was apprehensive at first, as she wanted to complete her studies. After completing her studies, she signed Raj Kanwar's "Ab Ke Baras" which was also Raj Babbar's son Aarya's launch vehicle. The film didn't do as well as expected; she also got an offer to act in a historical film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi's "The legend of Bagath Singh", even though it was a small role.

"Ishq Vishk", with Shahid Kapur became a huge hit and earned her the girl-next-door image. She also won the best debutante award from Filmfare, Stardust and IIFA for the movie. She followed up the success with "Masti", a sex-comedy and "Main Hoon Na", which featured Shah Rukh Khan and gave her worldwide popularity. She also acted in "Deewaar", "Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi", "Shikhar", and "Pyare Mohan".

"Vivah", the Sooraj Barjatya movie is a big turning point of her career. Not only is the film a big success worldwide, but she has also gained a huge fan following of all ages through it. She and her co-star in the film, Shahid Kapur are considered the most promising pair after Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol.

The best thing about Amrita is that not only is she beautiful and talented, but she also has no hang-ups and is very down-to-earth, which makes her easy to work with. After "Vivah" she has lots of offers coming her way, but like before, she is taking it slow, waiting for the right scripts, because she knows "Slow and steady wins the race!"
